Mexican Auto Insurance - The Key To Your Protection

For an American visitor, a car accident in Mexico is a great deal more serious than the same type of accident would be at home according to Mr. Kitto. In his personal account of having a car accident and spending a week dealing with Mexican Authorities, Kitto hopes to alert all Americans planning to drive in Mexico of the need to be fully prepared.

Mexican car insurance is an important resource to possess, for reasons that become obvious as you browse his true story. Additionally, this was not the first time Mr. K. traveled to Mexico when he was involved in an accident in Southern Mexico, as he was driving a truck that belonged to his friend.

Bill is a very cautious driver and, since the road conditions were getting very bad because of a rain storm that was moving in, he was at the wheel. This meant he was dependent on the coverage of his friend's Mexican insurance being adequate.

Bill and his friend were traveling at a cautious 30 MPH hour when they rounded a corner to find a Mexican military hurtling towards them partly on their side of the road. Unable to avoid the crash, the two vehicles impacted head-on left, sending the personnel scattered down an embankment and Bill and his friend into the cliff wall on the opposite side.

The Mexican police came very quickly. While his friend was left standing on the side of the road, Bill, who was injured, was taken hastily to another location that was not know to either Bill or his friend. You are guilty until proven innocent in Mexico, unlike in the US.

Bill finds himself in a Mexican detention cell without any contact and without any knowledge of his fate, in part because at this point he has no way of knowing whether his friend even carried Mexican auto insurance.

After several hours, the guards took him back to the scene of the accident. His friend was there with his Mexican auto insurance policy. This would have been the end of the story in the US, but in Mexico it was just the beginning.

The entire story of Bill is lengthy and quite upsetting. He actually spends a week in a Mexican hospital without anyone by his side. Bill attempts to prolong his injuries so that he will avoid seeing the inside of a Mexican prison. He is completely at the mercy of the local government; an archaic technology; and shady legal counsel. At first it seemed that paying his way out of the situation is clearly not an option.

There were many times when Bill was unsure if he would ever get out of the mess-if he could afford to get out of the mess. In the end, Bill does gain his tenuous freedom, only after spending more than $28,000 US. Luckily for Bill, he was able to secure the money to secure his freedom, but many other Americans would have fallen far short.

Because of the bureaucracy and dishonesty encountered in Mexico, Bill is unsure if he will ever see a return on his life's investment. Bill took away a few things from his experience that he strives to pass on to all Americans traveling in Mexico.

Be sure to have a cell phone or satellite phone on you at all times and learn the dialing codes in Mexico.

Keep in contact with family at home who can send money quickly when needed and keep close contact with your Mexican Insurance company since you may not be able to reach them yourself.

And above all else-

ALWAYS HAVE MEXICO AUTO INSURANCE - the kind that delivers good protection and adequately covers personal injury and damage to property.

Make sure the Mexican car insurance is from a reputable company.

Make certain that you have proof of Mexico Insurance within the car and at hand all the time! (Should you be away from the vehicle, have the Mexican auto insurance ID cards on your person!)

The horrendous experience Bill went through proved just one thing - it is money that matters in Mexico. There, it doesn't matter how they get it or where it comes from, but if you can grease their palms with enough cash, it makes a difference in being seen as guilty or innocent.

Most people can only dream of having $30,000 plus readily available to them, so it is best to have very good Mexican car insurance to and adequate limits protect yourself.
